MGN ON THE ROAD
Orlando
Yes, Florida was warm, sunny and the breezes were under 75 miles an hour, almost perfect for a getaway. Alas, I did not golf, but my colleagues Mike Collins and Bill Craig had a very satisfying round on the Magnolia course. I noticed that Disney has become even more customer friendly in the past couple of years. An in room coffee service and refrigerator allows you to save a couple of bucks while staying. It saves you from that $6 coffee run in the morning. We spent four days at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and found you never tire of looking out the window of your room to see a giraffe grazing in the treetops.

ABC TO DROP GOLF
ABC Sports is no longer part of the negotiations for the PGA Tour's next television contract, leaving only CBS and NBC to broadcast the majority of tournaments. The tour's contract expires after this year and the Tour has twice negotiated massive deals with the networks through the popularity of Tiger Woods. But the networks have said they were losing money on golf, and PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem introduced a revamped schedule to the negotiations this year. Starting in 2007, the tour will feature the FedEx Cup, a points race that culminates with three major tournaments, ending with the Tour Championship. It is designed to sustain interest throughout the season. ABC now has bigger financial commitments to the NFL and MLB, while ABC/ESPN will reportedly pay as much as $270 million a year for a piece of NASCAR.

CBS TO CONTINUE DOMINANT ROLE IN TELEVISING GOLF
CBS Sports and the PGA TOUR today announced the completion of a new television agreement. Under the term of a new six-year deal, CBS will provide weekend coverage of the PGA TOUR for the 2007 through 2012 seasons. MORE http://www.golfbusinesswire.com/2006_articles/102390

BAY MILLS OPEN DROPPED BY BAY MILLS INDIAN COMMUNITY
The Bay Mills Indian Community has decided to drop its sponsorship of the Canadian Tour's Bay Mills Open. According to Jeff Parker, Tribal Chairman, "the bottom line did not justify the expense." The Bay Mills Open produced four champions; Michael Harris in 2005, Chris Wisler in 2004, Rodney Butcher in 2003 and Jeff Quinney in 2002. Like other golf tournaments, organizers found it to be a tough market on the sponsorship side.

In the past few years, Michigan has lost the Oldsmobile Classic at Walnut Hills near Lansing, the Farmers Charity Classic at Egypt Valley in Grand Rapids, the Ann Arbor Bank Futures Golf Class at Lake Forest in Ann Arbor and now the Bay Mills Open at Wild Bluff in Brimley. Obviously, this is a direct reflection of not only the golf economy, but the economy in general in Michigan.

MIKE HUSBY RETURNS TO CANDLESTONE INN TO BEGIN ITS TURNAROUND
Mike Husby has always been interesting copy. He has as they say, "Been there and done that." His travels have taken him to Sugar Springs CC, Michaywe, Marsh Ridge Resort, The Otsego Club, Candlestone Inn and Golf Club, The Loon, Wild Bluff GC, The Loon and now back to Candlestone. During that time he designed, Marsh Ridge GC, The Loon GC, Wild Bluff GC, Indian River GC and Newberry CC. He also worked on the initial Bay Mills Open, established the Wild Bluff Golf Academy and still managed to keep himself sharp as a player.

When The Loon changed hands this spring, Husby was one of the Loon's owners, he suddenly found some time on his hands. That changed this fall, when Joe Duthler, owner of Candlestone Inn & Resort in Belding, heard that he was available and immediately hired him. Duthler, wanted Husby to come in pump up the business and make it an attractive property for potential buyers. Hired in September, Husby, has doubled the business at the resort and is booking solid rounds for next year.

19TH HOLE - TOP 10 PUNS
Here are the 10 first place winners in the International Pun Contest:
1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, "I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger."

2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says "Dam!"

3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says "I've lost my electron." The other says "Are you sure?" The first replies "Yes, I'm positive."

5. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root canal? His goal: transcend dental medication.

6. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why?", they asked, as they moved off.

"Because," he said, " I can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer."

7. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal." The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds,"They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."

8. These friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to "persuade" them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. Terrified, they did so, --- thereby proving that only Hugh can prevent florist friars.

9. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him (Oh, man, this is so bad, it's good)..... A super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

10. And finally, there was the person who sent ten different puns to friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did.

Thanks and a Tip of the Tam to Dr. Jack Minzey for these punny lines.
