Hundreds of exhibits, clinics and free golf lessons, equipment and merchandise bargains, and contests will inform and entertain golfers of all ages and handicaps. Nationally acclaimed for its exceptional headliners, this year¹s Show will feature equipment expert Frank Thomas, former Technical Director for the United States Golf Association and currently Chief Technical Advisor for Golf Digest magazine.

³Golfers will find everything they need here to get the most of out of their games,² said Show Manager Carolyn Alt. ³And they won¹t even need a tee-time.²

Highlights of the West Michigan Golf Show, produced by ShowSpan Inc:

With over 250 booths of golf destinations, golf equipment and merchandise, golfers will get a jump start on the upcoming season and their vacations plans. The top courses and resorts from throughout the state and the U.S. will be represented as will a host of retailers offering the newest clubs, balls, bags, apparel and accessories at the best prices.

The first 100 people entering the Show each day will receive a free sleeve of Srixon Softfeel golf balls.

Show patrons will be able to have their picture taken with the famed Wanamaker Trophy presented to the winner of the PGA Championship, won last year by Tiger Woods at Medinah. The Wanamaker Trophy will be on display as part of an exhibit by the 2008 PGA Championship to be held at Oakland Hills, Bloomfield Hills, MI.

The ever popular Par-3 Challenge will test golfers with an indoor, fully landscaped golf hole, courtesy of Everett¹s Landscaping and Southwest Greens. With qualifying shots all weekend benefiting Big Brothers/Big Sisters, one lucky finalist on Sunday will take a crack at holing an ace and earning $25,000 in cash.

MICHIGAN GOLFER TELEVISION
Michigan Golf Show with Jennie McCafferty and Laurie McCann Last year, the Michigan Golf Show moved into their new digs and the golf world loved it. There was plenty of space to move around, the parking was less of a headache and there were bars in the exhibit area. Our host Jennie McCafferty, had the chance to chat with Laurie McCann about the success of last year's show and what to expect this year. And to be sure, our video alos highlights many of the booths and their boothkateers. As the golf show season, begins, you can watch these shows to whet your appetite. It's like hitting a bucket of balls before the match begins. Enjoy

ROUNDS FINISH YEAR UP NEARLY ONE PERCENT
Some unseasonably warm and dry weather along the northern tier had golfers on the links later in the year than usual in 2006. Television broadcasts showed players teeing it up over the holidays from New York to Michigan. As a result, there were some unusually high increases in the percentage change between 2006 and 2005 rounds in December, albeit on a low volume. For example, facilities in the Northeast averaged about 100 rounds in December 2005 and about 400 rounds in December 2006, for a 300% increase.

The 16.7% increase in rounds for December pushed up the year-to-date figure to 0.8%. So calendar year 2006 rounds were up nearly one percent from 2005. The Southeast finished the year with the largest increase (4.5%) followed by Central/South Florida (3.4%). The Southwest was down more than any other region (-1.1%).

PGA MERCHANDISE SHOW WRAPUP
Every stock market across the world strives to find leading economic indicators that serve asbarometers of future performance. The golf industry is no different, and the PGA Merchandise Show, which concluded Saturday, Jan.27, 2007, at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center, is certainly the first leading economic indicator of the year for the businessof the game.

Preliminary reports show that overall attendance increased by more than 3 percent to 45,019 -- compared to 43,549 in 2006.

Meanwhile, the influential PGA Professional and buyer attendance figures increased significantly as well -- by a projected 14 percent year-over-year. Final independent audited attendance reports will be available in six weeks.

Golf's market leaders, such as Callaway Golf, TaylorMade Golf, the Titleist Performance Institute, Srixon, Nike Golf, adidas, Cutter & Buck, MacGregor, Ahead, Ashworth, Tehama, Gear For Sports, Bridgestone, the Greg Norman Collection and more were among 1,250 exhibitors within 520,000 net square-feet of interactive exhibit space.

COURSE CLOSURES OUTPACE OPENINGS IN 2006
According to the National Golf Foundation, there was negative net growth in golf facilities in 2006 for the first time in 60 years, as the number of courses that closed (146 18-hole equivalents) was greater than the number of openings (119.5).

In releasing the data, NGF said it was not an alarming occurrence, but a confluence of events openings returning to more normal levels and weaker facilities being culled.

In the late 1980s, the number of openings was about 100 per year. There followed a wave of increased construction in the 1990s that peaked in 2000 with nearly 400 openings. Since then the wave has subsided to near historic levels.

The culling of courses is not viewed as a negative by NGF. The organization expects overall course supply to stop expanding in the absence of increases in demand. It is primarily the weaker courses that are closing and, in many cases, owners who sell are profiting from long-term real estate appreciation. Finally, a better quality overall golf supply means a better quality experience for players.

NGF recorded a 56 percent jump in the number of closures between 2005 and 2006, from 93.5 to 146. These 146 closures represent about 1 percent of the total supply of golf courses in the U.S. Closures were primarily public (97 percent). They were disproportionately short courses (executive and par-3) 20 percent were short courses vs. 8 percent of total facilities. And, they were disproportionately stand-alone 9-holers, 46 percent vs. 28 percent of total facilities. Closures were predominately values courses; with nearly half having peak green fees under $25. Closures occurred in 39 of 50 states.

GOT CLICHE?
Sports clichés, the language of the locker room, are actually used in about 50% of corporate boardrooms and everyday conversations, according to Dr. Don R. Powell, a licensed psychologist and President of the American Institute for Preventive Medicine in Farmington Hills, Michigan. That's because both sports, as in the Super Bowl, and business reward hard work, dedication, competitiveness, and success.

Sports clichés provide a kind of shorthand, according to Dr. Powell, author of Best Sports Clichés Ever, available at http://www.BestSportsCliches.com. They communicate ideas quickly and clearly. In business, they are used to compliment, reprimand, motivate, and set goals.

"We have a love/hate relationship with clichés. Although we complain about them, we are enamored with them. That's because they always seem to fit. Quite frankly, in some ways we can't live without sports clichés," says Powell.

Dr. Powell thinks there's something very comforting about clichés. We have heard them since we were young, so they bring back pleasant memories of watching games with our mom or dad.

Powell has compiled the top 10 sports clichés used in business.

1. He's a team player.
2. He dropped the ball.
3. It's gut check time.
4. He doesn't pull any punches.
5. He always steps up to the plate.
6. He talks a good game.
7. He's in a league of his own.
8. They want to play hardball.
9. The ball's in your court.
10.He answered the bell.
