MGN ON THE ROAD
Lansing- We attended the second of Michigan's four golf shows, the
Lansing Golf Show. last week and report that it was a very nice show. The
vendors, we chatted with were generally pleased with the traffic and
continue to be optimistic about the coming year. Todd Smith and Laurie
McCann, show administrators, were on hand to make sure that the show went
smoothly. They indicated that the Novi show just had six booths left
for it to be a sellout. Not bad, seeing they have 20% more space this
year at their new Rock Financial Showcase digs.
At the show, Gaylord had its usual strong line up of golf destinations,
with Marsh Ridge, The Natural Golf Course, Treetops, Gaylord CVB, Pine
Cone Accommodations, The Otsego Club and Beaver Creek Resort on hand.
It was nice seeing fellow Milfordites, Roger Boyt, who manages Hawk
Meadows and Willow Brook and Jim Dewling whose company Total Golf manages
over 20 courses, at the show. Dewling has continued his path as a
significant other within the Michigan golf scene. He will be a Michigan Golf
Hall of Fame lock one of these years.
French Lick Resort, normally a show staple, has been shut down while
they build a new casino and new golf course. Pete Dye has been hired to
develop the new course, which will be utilizing the high ground around
the hotel. The new casino will be located where the present course is
and where they have had some serious flooding in the past. Fuzzy
Zoeller is involved with the project, beating out an ownership team that was
headed by "The Hick from French Lick", Larry Bird. Gaming is not new
to French Lick; it thrived for a number of decades in the 20's, 30's and
early 40's. To get a feel for how things were there at one time, you
can click on to a series of shows we did for them entitled, "The Caddies
From French Lick" at http://michigangolfer.tv/2003shows/show3/index.html
Top 10 Booths-Random Order
Last Minute Golfer-Finally, a real powerhouse has emerged in the field
of online bookings.
Stress Terminator-Golfers were standing in line for the chance to lie
down in the stress eliminator beds they had on site.
Capital Cadillac- The new Cadillac cars looked great. Go GM.
Hog Heaven-The Grande GC, The Majestic at Lake Walden, Hawk Hollow GC
and Eagle's Eye are holding a raffle for a Harley Davidson motorcycle that will be given away this fall. Bill Fountain, et.al. are calling their marketing ploy, "Hog Heaven." It looks like Fountain is trying to get another marketing idea into the Wall Street Journal, where he has had two appear already.
Osprey Recreation Properties-They have a great booth to hawk their one
stop golf shopping. The management firm represents, Black Forest, Wilderness Valley, Manistee National, The Ridgewood and The Medalist. http://www.golfospreyonline.com/page/290-12546.htm
Rock Bottom Golf-This place was a mad house of golfers buying new
equipment.
St. Ives Resort-Kevin O'Brien always has great golf fashion at their
booth, this year was no exception.
Erie Construction-They did a nice job constructing the greens and apron
complex for the show.
Timber Ridge- "Mama Mia that is some a spicey meatball." The Timber
Ridge folks from East Lansing, had a chef serving food at their booth. It was a nice touch and was a bonus for those folks who had booths around them.
Crystal Mountain Golf School-The hitting and instruction area seemed to
be crowded as usual. Michigan golfers love the opportunity to hit a few
balls at these shows.

GLSP TO CREATE ONLINE TELEVISION COMMERCIALS AT MICHIGAN GOLF SHOW
The hottest shows on Michigan Golfer Television year after year are the
ones that appear under our Golf Package and Golf Getaways headings.
Last year, those categories attracted over 40,000 viewers. Yes, Internet
television is hot, hot, hot as most recently highlighted in "Online
Video Goes Mainstream, Sparking an Industry Land Grab" an article
appearing in the February 21 issue of the Wall Street Journal.
To help golf properties test this new content delivery system, GLSP
will create a basic two-minute online video commercial for interested
clients at the Michigan Golf Show. The service, normally priced at $395,
will be $295 at the show. If clients would like to have the page created
on a website page that mimics their own, they would need to add another
$50. The commercials will be shot the Saturday morning of the show and
be online within the week .You can view some representative video we
shot at the WMGS at http://michigangolfer.tv/2006shows/golfcoursepreviews/
Time will limit us to shoot only ten spots, so make your appointment
today. For those interested in reserving a time or desire more
information, contact Thad Gutowski at thad@acd.net Taping will occur from 8:30 until 10:00 A.M. on Saturday.

CATHAL O'SULLIVAN TO BRING SOME SMILING IRISH EYES TO OUR MG BOOTH
With St. Patrick's Day, fast approaching, we thought we would bring
some Irish talent to our Michigan Golfer booth at the Michigan Golf Show
at Rock Financial Showcase. For our regular viewers of Michigan Golfer
Television, you know we have been running a special series of Golfing
Ireland show with Jack Berry. The series will culminate with our pre
Ryder Cup show. Cathal will be part of our coverage as we chat with him
about the preparations that are now going on in Ireland.
http://www.sullivangolf.ie/
Cathal, who owns Sullivan Golf & Travel, will also be able to discuss
travel arrangements with people that are interested in Ireland golf.

MICHIGAN UNVEILS THE WORLD'S LARGEST GOLF FLAG
The World's Largest Golf Flag was raised at the Michigan Capitol
Building last week. The flag was manufactured to symbolize Michigan's
standing as the top golf state in the country and the vital role golf plays in
Michigan's tourism economy.
The joint promotion from Travel Michigan and Citadel Broadcasting of
Lansing also included a putting contest on the Capitol grounds in
30-degree weather. Measuring 5.5' high and 10' wide, the flag has been
entered as a new category for inclusion in the Guinness Book of World
Records.
Event sponsors included Crystal Mountain Resort, Bay Mills Resort and
Casino, Hawk Hollow Properties and The Michigan PGA. The flag was
manufactured by St. Andrews Products through Marc Heistand and Michigan Golf
Sales.
Michigan boasts over 850 public golf courses, one of the most by any
state in the nation. Golf travelers contribute nearly $1 billion
annually to the state's economy. Golfers and travelers may obtain more
information about the Great Lakes and great golf in Michigan by visiting the
Travel Michigan website at http://www.michigan.org.
