MGN ON THE ROAD
Bay City
When most golfers think of Bay City golf, the Bay Valley Resort is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Bay Valley which opened in 1973 was designed by Desmond Muirhead, with some suggestions from Jack Nicklaus, who was involved in a few Muirhead projects in his early development as an architect. http://bayvalley.com

This week, Bay Valley Resort was sold to Toledo based RMC Realty and will soon be rebranded and renamed. Anthony Barclae, owner of the resort since the late 90's is retiring. While no price was announced, Barclae had it on the market for 6.1 million last year. This marks yet another Michigan resort being sold. Those prior resorts sold included Treetops, The Ostego Club, St, Ives and now Bay Valley.

Other courses in the Bay City Saginaw area include, the 27-hole Maple Leaf GC in Linwood, Sandy Ridge GC which is a little toward Midland, Twin Oaks in Freeland, White Birch Hills in Bay City, Green Hills near Pinconning and Bay County GC in nearby Essexville. All can be found at http://tourbaycitymi.org

Frankenmuth-The Fortress
Former Saginaw basketballer and NBA star of the Golden State Warriors, Jason Richardson, will underwrite $15,000 for a Saginaw United Way golf outing this summer. This is an ongoing charity for Richardson, who has given over $100,000 in the past. The Jason Richardson Golf Classic will take place at The Fortress in Frankenmuth on July 18.

Mt. Pleasant-Buck's Run & Pohlcat
Buck's Run
Stopped by to pick up something green for St. Patrick's Day in the Buck's Run proshop and ran into Heidi Childs and Mitch Bos. Childs, manages the proshop, and is now in her 7th year. Like so many folks, she is geared up for the coming golf season. The Buck's Run's proshop has one of the best views of a golf course in Michigan. Others that come to mind are The Jewel on Mackinac Island, Little Traverse Bay GC in Harbor Springs and The Highlands near Escanaba. Any favorites? Pass them on. You can see some of what we are talking about at http://michigangolfer.tv/2006shows/bucksrun/

Also, the 4th Annual Bucks Run Spring Shootout will take place on April 29, 2007. For further info contact Mitch Bos at mitch@bucksrun.com

Pohlcat
The Mt Pleasant area has produced their share of outstanding golfers. Certainly the first that comes to mind is Dan Pohl, who is now on the Champions Tour. Pohl recently was elected to Michigan's Golf Hall of Fame http://michigangolfer.tv/2005shows/ghf/ Of late,Mt Pleasanthas been represented by Ryan Brehm, now a junior at MSU and Doug LaBelle III who is establishing himself as a player on the PGA Tour. The historian to all of this is John Brehm, co-owner of the Pohlcat and the person that you see handling the booth at the golf shows. Brehmsaid that of the three, Doug LaBelle is the least physically gifted. "Doug, has had to work for everything he has gotten in golf. Honestly, to look at him, you would never believe that he was a successful golf professional."

Brehm, is usually on the bag for his nephew, Ryan, during the various championships that Ryan plays in. His brother, Tom, and Ryan's father loops on occasion, but mainly has to tend to his duties as the GM of the Holiday Inn in Mt. Pleasant.

Dan Pohl, was also the designer of the Pohlcat and there is talk of another course down the road, to be designed by W. Bruce Matthews III. http://pohlcat.net

Kevin McKinley is the new Director of Golf at Treetops and he has jumped into the job with both spikes. In our Treetops preview video, McKinley lets his audience know what they can expect under his reign. Santee Tourism-South Carolina
One golf destination that continues to successfully attract our Michigan snowbirds and leafbirds is Santee, South Carolina. These friendly folks offer quality golf at a fair price and let you experience a more laid back golf experience than Myrtle Beach. Our video features a couple of spokespersons for Santee Tourism. They talk about the 10 golf courses that are available and many the places of accommodations. Enjoy

http://michigangolfer.tv/2006shows/boynegolf/heather/
The archival footage of Everett Kircher and Robert Trent Jones along with the course description of Bernie Friedrick, makes this an especailly pleasing and most informative show.

Amazing Race
http://michigangolfer.tv/miskier/season_6/amazingrace/

This is a timely show, in that it shows to what lengths resorts will go to connect with new markets. Director of Golf, Kevin McKinley does a masterly job as the host of this year's Amazing Race at Treetops Resort

Chuck Kocsis
http://michigangolfer.tv/2006shows/kocsis/

We had a lot of compliments on this video when we showed it at the Sweet Sixteen dinner at last year's Michigan Amateur. The interview of Chuck Kocsis was with Bill Shelton and Jack Berry.

Golfing In ireland with Jack Berry
http://michigangolfer.tv/2005shows/golfireland/

In a matter of weeks, Jack Berry will be receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalism from the PGA. While Jack Berry has chronicled the game of golf in our country for almost half a century, he has taken some time to have some fun in Ireland.

Celebration of the Ryder Cup
http://michigangolfer.tv/2005shows/irish/index.html

Our series of Ryder Cup videos, brings viewers a number of sidebars of the Ryder Cup. Our videos capture the opening ceremony, a conversation with the Ryder Cup family, a celebration at the Henry Ford Museum and a parry at Dick O'Dows in Birmingham.

Ben Davis
http://michigangolfer.tv/2005shows/davis/index.html

Ben Davis, just celebrated his 95th birthday at Rackham Golf Course last month. He is a true golf pioneer, having broken the color line in golf a half seven decades ago. This video of Davis captures some of that history and also some of the sadness that he experienced while breaking through the racism of the time.

Jeff Daniels Comedy Golf Jam
http://michigangolfer.tv/2004shows/show22/index.html

Jeff Daniels and his Purple Rose stable of actors, put on a funny, funny golf tournament. Our video captured the craziness of a golf experience that perhaps only rivaled by those in the days of Alex Karras, when he was blowing up greens at the former Torrey Pines course.

The Bull of Pinehurst Farms
http://michigangolfer.tv/2003shows/thebull/index.html

This is Jack Nicklaus at his best, opening up one of his new golf courses. A Jack Nicklaus Signature normally gets six visits from him during the construction phase, the last visit being the Grand Opening. Our video captures the press conference and the excitement of the opening of The Bull at Pinehurst Farms.

William Newcomb
http://michigangolfer.tv/2001shows/show1/index.html

The thrill of something new is hard to top. We launched the world's first Internet television show in March of 2001 and architect Bill Newcomb was our first guest. Since that time, six years ago, we have done hundreds of shows and have attracted millions of viewers. Is this a great country or what?
