Port Huron
We dropped by Golf Country, a a golf instruction, sales and club equipment facility just outside of Port Huron , to catch up with the folks and the facility that was built in 1995.With the firms history of club making and repair, Golf Country has found a niche market in the preparing of adaptive clubs http://www.golf-country.com/adaptive_golf/Adaptive_Golf_Club.htmfor those that have to play the game from wheelchairs. According to Wendy Palmateer, daughter of founder Jim Dowcett, many of their clients are returning serviceman who were injured during their tour of duty. http://www.golf-country.com/

--------
Hamilton, Ontario
As we drove into Hamilton golfers were opening the season at Chedoke GC, one of over 60 golf courses in the Hamilton, Niagara area. Hamilton is the steel producing capital of Canada and as such, the skyline is dominated by the smokestacks that hug Hamilton Bay. Hamilton is better known for producing steel for cars than golfing stars. However, when the hockey and curling season is over these Canadians return to their fairways.

Kevin McKinley, the new Director of Golf at Treetops, has jumped into the job with both spikes. In our preview of the 2007 Treetops season video, McKinley lets his audience know what they can expect under his reign. With the warming temperatures, McKinley, has put away his skis and hosting duties of the Amazing Race. http://michigangolfer.tv/miskier/season_6/amazingrace/ to ready himself for a busy season. http://michigangolfer.tv/2007shows/treetopspreview/index.html

Santee Tourism-South Carolina
One golf destination that continues to successfully attract our Michigan snowbirds and leafbirds is Santee, South Carolina. These friendly folks offer quality golf at a fair price and let you experience a more laid back golf experience than Myrtle Beach. Our video features a couple of spokespersons for Santee Tourism. They talk about the 10 golf courses that are available and many the places of accommodations. Enjoy

SPEAKING OF AUCTIONS-HUNTMORE IS ON THE BLOCK
=================================================

Huntmore GC, just outside Brighton, will be auctioned off by McKay Golf Properties this coming June. Huntsmore, originally called the Michigan Golf Club, came on the scene in 2000 and has struggled finding an audience ever since. It has changed hands once it opened. The growth of Livingston County should help get it a new owner, but they will have to be patient.

FRENCH LICK-GAMING AND GOLF-DEJA VU
===================================================

There was a time when French Lick had 14 Pullman trains a day bringing gamblers to the 13 casinos, golfers to the Bendelow and Ross courses and health seekers to its spa. Walter Hagen won a PGA Championship on the Ross course in 1924.

Joe Louis, Lana Turner, Howard Hughes, Arthur Fiedler, Bing Crosby and Franklin Roosevelt were among the celebrities to visit the area in its heyday. However, the gaming halls were shut down in the late 40's and a depressed economy has prevailed since then.

The Michigan Golfer has visited the resort on a number of occasions the past 20 years. Dave Harner, the Head Professional, has been on hand most of those years. He is the face of the resort and he is excited about the 400 million dollars that have been pumped into the area since gaming was legalized once again. They have remodeled the French Lick Resort Hotel, opened the gaming center on what was the driving range and first hole of the Bendelow course, have built a new nine out of the remaining Bendelow course and have hired Pete Dye to design a new championship course. In addition, the Ross course has been returned to its original layout using the original course drawings.

The MG will be visiting the resort in mid May and we will bring back an update for you.

In the meantime you can watch a show we did back in 2003: The Caddies of French Lick - http://michigangolfer.tv/2003shows/show3/index.html
