Sponsored by: Mark, Matthew and Luke, a trilogy of golf courses are waiting for you at St. John's in Plymouth. Besides these three terrific nines, they also have a Carl's Golfland center and a very impressive conference center. This place has to be seen to be believed. Warren/Niles, OhioWe visited the golf community of Trumbull County last week and had a ball. The newspapers were filled with news of the Giant Eagle LPGA tournament in town. While there we visited Yankee Run http://yankeerun.com, Candywood GC, Pine Lakes http://pinelakes.com Avalon Lakes http://avalonlakes.com and Sqaw Valley CC, where the Giant Eagle was being contented. While there we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, rated the No.1 Holiday Inn Express in the nation for the past 16 months and then Julia's, an unique upscale B & B, located on the property of Pine Lakes. Bottom line, there is terrific golf in Trumbull County and we certainly recommend that you consider it for a golfing getaway. The best way to do that would be to visit the Trumbull County Website at http://www.trumbullcountycvb.org/ Also, MGTV will have an upcoming show featuring the area.*** JANSON QUALIFIES FOR FARMERS CHARITY CLASSIC Lynn Janson, Director of Golf at Egypt Valley Country Club, shot 5-under 67 at his home course to lead a list of four professionals who qualified for this week's Farmers Charity Classic. "He played his way in and now he can set his game for the Tournament Course. The firm has also worked their magic at Oakland Hills CC as it prepares for the Ryder Cup. The U.S. Senior Open, will be the 6th major tournament for Inverness, having hosted three U.S. Opens; 1920 won by Ted Ray, 1931 Won by Billie Burke and 1957 won by Dick Mayer. the 1979 PGA won by David Graham and The U.S. Amateur in 1973 won by Craig Stadler. Art Hills talked about the need to challenge the Senior golfers. The firm created all new tees and extended the length of the course from 6950 to 7250 yards. They deepened some bunkers and re grassed all of the greens, with a grass that can tolerate a shorter cut, they removed 800 trees and built new mounds for galleries. Join our host Bill Shelton as we explore the changes to one of America's greatest courses.http://michigangolfer.tv 24/7 Always On *Last week's show on new Michigan Golf Courses drew 3,271 viewers. *** WALTER HAGEN IS IN THE HOUSE Walter Hagen, dropped by Cadillac yesterday to visit some of his old haunts. He visited Cadillac on his way to participating in "The Haig". Walter spent a great deal of time in this summer resort area. In fact, he rented four cabins year around from about 1950 until he left for Long Lake in 1956. Ron Anderson, whose father used to own Pilgrim's Village, where Hagen rented the cabins, grew up with Hagen. "Hagen used to party all the time. My father used to have coffee with Hagen in the morning and Hagen would go to bed after partying all night," said Anderson. Jim Neff, Detroit News ski columnist indicated his friend Doug Nelson and his friends used to dive for golf balls that Hagen would drive into Lake Mitchell. When they finished for the day, he would drive them into town in his Cadillac for ice cream. Hagen balls continued to wash up on the beach through the mid 80's. Today, Walter will be appearing at "The Haig" Golf Tournament being held at Elmbrook GC in Traverse City. He is the guest of honor at the evening banquet that will be held at the Grand Traverse Heritage Center. ***BANK OF ANN ARBOR FUTURES GOLF CLASSIC BEGINS TODAY Last year, Lorena Orchoa of Guadalajara, Mexico won the Bank of Ann Arbor Futures Golf Classic at Lake Forest GC.
