Traverse City
Hockey Town North started up last week with the Red Wings Golf
Tournament being held at Grand Traverse Resort. Mike DeAgostino
indicated that this is huge tournament with thousands of dollars raised
for the Red Wings and familiies that were impacted by the horrible car
accident a number of years ago.

Leelanau Club is advertising its new driving range to attract new golfers
and it seems like the entire north is having a fall golf sale.

Treetops is offerting $25 off of walk up rounds until Oct. 13.

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED RESTRICTS WEB CONTENT TO SUBSCRIBERS

AOL Time Warner has restricted online access to content from Sports
Illustrated magazine to print subscribers. Daily sports stories and scores
remain available, but columns and articles from the magazine and photo
features are being bundled into "SI Exclusive," for paid customers
only. "Our hope is that it leads to our getting a nice healthy return on
subscriptions," Steve Robinson, managing editor of SI.com, told the Wall
Street Journal. In April, Time Inc. stopped free online access to 13 of its
magazines, with a resulting gain in subscriptions. According to Ned Desmond,
executive editor. He said http://www.time.com/time/
Time magazine has experimented with subscriber-only sections that
could be made permanent soon, the Journal added.

KENTUCKY GREAT FALL GOLF

By Thad Gutowski

Let's face it, for the serious golfer Michigan's golf season is far too
short! But the good news is that it can be extended significantly in the
fall, by taking a short and pleasant drive down Interstate 75. Just a few
miles south of the Ohio border you will find some great golf and convenient,
comfortable lodging. The Kentucky golf season starts about six weeks
before ours and most often goes well into November. Here are a few golf
destinations you may wish to consider in the Bluegrass State:

Perry Park Golf Resort, about an hour south and a bit west of Cincinnati is
a great golf getaway spot for Michigan golfers. Spread over about 2,800
acres this family-owned operation offers about everything you might be
looking for. The 18-hole golf course built in 1967 is a pleasure to play and is
kept in excellent condition. With five sets of tees from 7,162 yards
down to 4,063 yards this course has something for everyone. The bent
grass greens are the largest in Kentucky, averaging over 7,000 square feet
but are not lightning fast, so getting it down in regulation is not an
unreasonable expectation. With moderate elevation changes, a nice variety
of fairway configurations mixed in with a little water, this course is both
enjoyable and challenging.

But there is more to Perry Park than great golf. Let's start with Glenwood
Hall, a beautiful building constructed before the civil war but recently fully
renovated. It is now a most charming B & B offering five large comfortable
rooms each with a private bath. To keep up with the demand, just this season
Perry Park opened a deluxe all-new 32-room hotel just a few steps away
from the first tee. Everything else a visitor might want is also most convenient,
from an Olympic size swimming pool to excellent dining.

Ty Robinett, Perry Park's golf professional said, " Many of our guests
come from Michigan. We are only about six hours away, and our more
moderate climate offers them a fine opportunity to start their golf season
earlier and extend it later. Now with our all new on-site lodging we expect
that more Michigan golfers will enjoy what Perry Park has to offer." For

If you are a Corvette fan chances are you know that Bowling Green is where
GM has produced this exceptional vehicle for the past fifty years. And, if
you're a spelunker you very well may have spent some time in one of the
Seven Wonders of the World - Mammoth Cave just up the road apiece. But
if you are a golfer you may not be aware that there's also some pretty good
golf in that neck of the woods.

At Diamond Caverns Resort & Golf Club near Park City, you'll find a fine
18-hole course that opened for play about thirty years ago. Not
back-breaking long, it is a fine test with rolling fairways, long par three's,
a few intimidating forced carry's and relatively small, quick greens. This
family destination offers a plethora of lodging accommodations: one and
two bedroom condos; comfortable lodge rooms; a deluxe RV park as well
as a tent campground. You will also find an Olympic-size swimming pool, a
health club, racquetball courts and a full spa. Diamond Caverns is a member
of the RCI organization of over 3,700 vacation properties in 100 different
countries. For more details click on http://mammothcave.com/dcrcave.htm
or call 270.749.3114.

Park Mammoth Resort is just a few minutes away and offers much to the
traveling golfer. Here are two very good golf 18-hole courses, a wonderful
lodge with excellent dining - spread out over 1,600 acres. The initial course
opened back in 1964 and offers an excellent opportunity to get home in
regulation, because the greens are huge averaging about 8,500 square
feet. Compare this with most courses that offer, "dance floors" of around
5,000 sf. All the holes are most interesting, especially #10 that plays over
water from a well-elevated tee. Cedar Point, the newest course opened about
eight years ago is cut through a dense forest of elevation changes.

The hotel offers great views and is a perfect balance of old-fashioned
charm and modern comfort - hand carved two-poster cherry wood beds,
coupled with an indoor swimming pool. The dining room features a full menu
and is known throughout the area for serving incomparable prime rib. To
book a great golf package please call 270.749.4101.

About seven hours south of Detroit near historic Harrodsburg, you will
find Bright Leaf Golf Resort, a destination that has been in the family for
five generations. It began a long time ago when the late Bill Blankenship
left his job as Course Superindendant at the prestigious Hillcrest Country
Club in Los Angeles to pursue a dream of building a golf course close to
where he was born and raised. Today it's 36 holes of scenic golf, a 105-room
hotel, health club, swimming pool and a dining room specializing in delicious
southern cuisine. The 18-hole championship course measures about 6,500
yards and is as they say, "friendly." You can take on another nine holes that
are more fun than challenge, and if you are one of those who just can't get
enough golf, you can tee it up on the lighted par-three after the sun goes
down. Call 1.800.469.6038 for more details.
