COMEDY LEGEND RODNEY DANGERFIELD PASSES AWAY
LOS ANGELES---Beloved comedian Rodney Dangerfield passed away today at
1:20pm at UCLA Medical Center following a difficult recovery from heart
valve replacement surgery performed on August 25. He was 82 years old.
According to his doctors, Rodney suffered a small stroke post
operatively and developed infectious and abdominal complications from
which he did not recover.

The Dangerfield family extends their heartfelt thanks to Rodney's team
of doctors, especially Dr. Hillel Laks, Dr. Jamie Moriguchi, and Dr.
David Kelly as well as all of the devoted nurses in the Cardio Thoracic
Intensive Care Unit at UCLA Medical Center who provided such fastidious
and compassionate care.

Following his heart surgery, Dangerfield slipped into a coma. However,
over the last week, he was showing early signs of neurological
improvement due to the innovative Real Time EEG Neurofeedback sessions
performed by specialist Margaret Ayers. Ayers was brought in on September
26 by Dangerfield's wife, Joan.

According to Joan Dangerfield, "What Margaret was able to accomplish
with Rodney was truly astounding. When Rodney emerged, he kissed me,
squeezed my hand, and smiled for his doctors. To her, I will be forever
grateful for giving us those moments."

On his last day, Rodney was surrounded by his family, including his
children, Brian and Melanie, his father-in-law Smokey, his niece Suzie and
his wife, Joan. "As we were all gathered around his bedside, one of
Rodney's favorite Frank Sinatra albums was playing in the room. Rodney
slipped away during the song "Come Fly With Me."

Dangerfield has bravely faced some health challenges in recent years,
including abdominal aortic aneurism surgery in 1992, a double-bypass
heart surgery in March of 2000 and an operation three months later to
correct another aneurysm. He also suffered a mild heart attack in November
of 2001 just before his birthday. In addition, UCLA's chief of
neurosurgery performed a rare extracranial-intracranial brain bypass on
Dangerfield in April of 2003 to increase blood flow and lessen the risk of the
recent heart valve replacement.

Born Jacob Cohen on November 22, 1921 in Babylon, Long Island, NY, the
King of "No Respect" and classic one-liners began his career at the age
of 15 when he started writing jokes. At 17, he started performing at
amateur nights under the name "Jack Roy." At 19, he had two jobs, one as
a comic who couldn't make a living, and the other as a singing waiter.
Rodney traveled the comedy circuit for 10 years, but reluctantly gave
up showbiz for a more stable income, selling aluminum siding.

It wasn't until the age of 40 that Dangerfield made the decision to
relaunch his career as a performer and comedy writer for the second time.
He spent his days in a business office and his nights working in New
York clubs. Determined, Rodney opened his own club, the now famous
Dangerfield's on First Avenue in Manhattan. One of the first comedy clubs,
Dangerfield's was a huge success and, virtually paved the way for comedy
club venues across the country. Rodney introduced many of today's
comedy stars to live audiences and television for the first time on his HBO
Young Comedians Specials such as Tim Allen, Roseanne, Jim Carrey, Sam
Kinison, Jerry Seinfeld, Louie Anderson, Jeff Foxworthy, Bob Saget, Rita
Rudner, Robert Townsend, Andy Kaufman, Bob Nelson, Andrew Dice Clay,
Carol Leifer, and others.

Dangerfield's feature film credits include starring in the classic hit
film comedy, "Caddyshack," as well as "Easy Money," which he co-wrote,
the mega-hit "Back to School," (one of the first comedy features to
gross over $100 million), and Paramount's "LadyBugs." Critics also praised
his realistic portrayal as the "father from hell" in Oliver Stone's
"Natural Born Killers." He went on to star in several other films,
including "Meet Wally Sparks," "My Five Wives," "Little Nicky," with Adam
Sandler ,and "The 4th Tenor."

Besides being a Las Vegas headliner for over 20 years, Dangerfield also
made countless appearances on talk and television variety shows. His
first big break was on the "Ed Sullivan Show" which he did 16 times.
Rodney also appeared on "This is Your Life," "What's My Line," "The Dean
Martin Show," "Saturday Night Live," and a record 70 times on "The
Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." He has also appeared a record 28 times on
"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," being one of the only entertainers to
have an open invitation to appear on the show. He has also appeared on
"LateNight w/ Conan O'Brien," "The Simpsons," "The Late Late Show with
Craig Kilborn," The Single Guy, "Home Improvement," among many others.

Rodney was the first entertainer to personally own a Website on the
Internet, www.rodney.com. Launched in February of 1995, his
state-of-the-art site has won numerous awards and distinctions as one of
the most visited sites on the World Wide Web.

Prolific and active until his recent surgery, Dangerfield had made
appearances on "Still Standing"(CBS), and "The Family Guy" (Fox
Television). He also made a cameo appearance in the forthcoming 20th
Century Fox feature, "The Onion." In addition, Rodney had also been the
subject of a forthcoming documentary on his life, entitled "Rodney Exposed."
He also took on the role of executive producer of the MGM remake of his
blockbuster comedy, "Back to School."

Most recently, Rodney released his autobiography in June of this year,
"It's Not Easy Bein' Me," A Lifetime of No Respect, but Plenty of Sex
and Drugs (Harper/Collins) to rave reviews, becoming a national
bestseller. Earlier this year, he had also sold the movie rights to the book.
In addition, Dangerfield has recorded a special album of love songs,
"Romeo Rodney," which was scheduled to be released on Valentine's Day of
next year, only to surpass the famous gift of the airlifted hot tub he
surprised his wife Joan with in 2003.

Dangerfield won a Grammy Award for his comedy album, "No Respect," and
was the recipient of the "Lifetime Creative Achievement Award" from the
1994 American Comedy Awards and was recently honored with the "Comedy
Idol Award" by Comedy Central. His famous trademark white shirt and red
tie are on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institute in
Washington, D.C.

Dangerfield leaves his wife Joan (married since 1993), and two children
from a previous marriage, Brian and Melanie, and 2 grandchildren,
Joshua and Matthew. Memorial services are currently being planned in Los
Angeles and will be announced shortly.

MGN ON THE ROAD
Bloomfield Hills
Vanessa Bell, reporter for the Michigan Golfer Television show, played
Oakland Hills CC last week, and said the repair work is underway. "The
North Course had the most damage as a result of the Ryder Cup
infrastructure demands. The South Course seemed to be recovering nicely."
Vanessa is off to England and then to southern Italy for qualifying school
for the Ladies European Golf Tour.

Gaylord
Paul Beachnau, Director of the CVB in the Gaylord Golf Mecca, ran the
Twin Cities Marathon in 4:15:35. Congrats to Paul on his latest
marathon success.

Ypsilanti
Tim Hygh, VP of Sales for WJR, announced to an Eastern Michigan
University sports marketing class,that WJR will be putting together a trip to
Ireland next year. The trip will include hanging out with WJR
personality Frank Beckman and playing the K Club, site of Ryder Cup 2006.
Details are still be worked out and we will bring you the package once it is
announced.

MICHIGAN GOLFER TV-A SNEAK PREVIEW OF SUNDANCE GOLF COURSE WITH JERRY MATTHEWS
Sundance, a second 18-hole course at A-GA-MING, is scheduled to open
this coming May. It is the latest offering from Jerry Matthews and
Natural Course Design. We had the opportunity to chat with Jerry and walk
around the course this past summer. We invite you to take a look at yet
another exciting Matthews' creation.

This is also a prequel to a series of upcoming television shows on
"The Architect and the Golf Course" that will be premiering next year on
the Michigan Golfer Television Show. Shows that are being taped now for
showing this spring include, The Natural GC in Gaylord and The Majestic
at Lake Walden, located in Hartland. Painting these memorable video
portraits is Joe Yunkman, one of Michigan's outstanding videographers.

LINCOLN MERCURY CLASSIC-Forest Lake CC, Bloomfield Hills

Timing is everything. You've heard that before and now Dave VanLoozen
of Edgewood CC, is a believer. As a PGA apprentice he was not eligible
for the Lincoln Mercury Classic, but when they moved the tournament to
October, out of the way of the Ryder Cup, some PGA members were not
available, so the Section opened the door for apprentices and VanLoozen
walked right through to the title. His last match play experience, was
winning the Michigan Amateur in 1988.

In the morning round VanLozen ousted David Osmer (Wabeek CC) with
another two putt birdie at 18, he won his quarterfinal with Charles Pasco
(Grosse Isle CC) the same way, yesterday. The championship match however,
against Jeff Zielinski, was over in a hurry. Combine a hot start with
your opponents cold putter and you have a winning formula. VanLoozen won
7 & 6 thanks to five birdies and an eagle in 12 holes, The eagle came
at the 347 yard, par 4, 9th hole after he drove the ball two feet from
the hole. " I played well, the best I played all week, at least for that
stretch. I figured out what I was doing and hit the ball straight, that
helps." Meanwhile Zielinski suffered through three early three putts "
I didn't have it today and if I did, I'd have been beaten anyway. Six
under through the twelve holes we played, was pretty strong."

The Spring Meadows CC pro had it in the semi final however, beating 7th
seed John DalCorobbo 2 & 1 with a 20 foot birdie putt at 16. Zielinski
went 2 up and a halve at 17 ended their match. "I didn't start swinging
well until the back side", said DalCorobbo, but the match was still
close. The Michigan State teaching pro not only lost this event, he also
lost the chance to win Player of the Year honors in the section,
finishing 2nd to Ron Beurmann of the CC of Jackson. Still it's been a good
five years for DalCorobbo who has finished 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and now 2nd
in the running for Player of the Year.

Former EMU collegiate golfer, Bart Lower survived his second week on
the Big Break II show as Jay McNair, of Florida, became the first golfer
to go home.

"You gotta learn how to lose before you can win," said an obviously
disappointed McNair. "It's not going to be the end of it, hopefully it
will be just the beginning. I just wish it would have lasted a little
longer."

LPGA TIP OF THE WEEK
Kimberly Estep, Singing Hill Resort, El Cajon, CA 92107 Many people are intimidated by sand shots simply because they do not
understand the shot and they rarely practice from the bunker.
Ironically, you have a greater margin for error in the sand than anywhere
else because you do not have to hit the ball - you only have to hit the sand
about one to three inches behind it.

Some of the more common mistakes in creating a sand shot are
decelerating through impact, having too short of a backswing and using too
strong of a hold on the handle of the club.

Deceleration is usually a result of trying to hit at the ball, rather
than hitting through the ball. The reason golfers take too short of a
backswing is that they worry about hitting the ball too far, not
trusting that the sand will absorb the energy of their swing. And a strong
hold on the handle causes the clubface to rotate to a closed position
through impact, which tends to make the club dig into rather than splash
through the sand.

By design, the sand wedge is uniquely suited for sand shots because it
allows the club to ride through the sand without digging into the sand.
To properly hit this shot requires a fairly full and flowing swing.
Work your feet into the sand, play the ball slightly forward in your
stance and set up with the clubface, feet, hips and shoulders open to the
target. Simply swing along this line, through the sand, follow through
and finish high. So, get in the sand and have fun practicing getting
out!

JOHN BROWN SHOOTS A HOLE IN ONE AT SCHUSS MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB
On September 21, 2004 John Brown of Saranac, Michigan drove an ace
(hole-in-one) with a 7 wood on hole #15 (172 yards) at Shanty Creek's
Schuss Mountain Golf Club. John has been playing for 34 years and this is
the first time that he has shot a hole-in-one.

HOLE IN ONE CLUB-ROSS UTHE
Ross Uthe, who has been playing the game for seven years, hit a seven
iron 177 yards on the 12th hole at Greystone GC in Romeo. It was his
first ace.

19TH HOLE
As a young man, Norton was an exceptional golfer. At the age of 26,
however, he decided to become a priest, and joined a rather peculiar
Order. He took the usual vows of poverty, chastity, but his Order also
required that he quit golf and never play again. This was particularly
difficult for Norton, but he agreed and was finally ordained a priest.

One Sunday morning, the Reverend Father Norton woke up and realizing it
was an exceptionally beautiful and sunny early spring day, decided he
just had to play golf.

So... he told the Associate Pastor that he was feeling sick and
convinced him to say Mass for him that day. As soon as the Associate
Pastor left the room, Father Norton headed out of town to a golf course
about forty miles away. This way he knew he wouldn't accidentally meet
anyone he knew from his parish.

Setting up on the first tee, he was alone. After all, it was Sunday
morning and everyone else was in church! At about this time, Saint Peter
leaned over to the Lord while looking down from the heavens and
exclaimed, "You're not going to let him get away with this, are you?"

The Lord sighed, and said, "No, I guess not." Just then Father Norton
hit the ball and it shot straight towards the pin, dropping just short
of it, rolled up and fell into the hole. It WAS A 420 YARD HOLE IN ONE!
St. Peter was astonished. He looked at the Lord and asked, "Why did you
let him do that?" The Lord smiled and replied, "Who's he going to
tell?"
