TREVINO ON PALMER'S FINAL ROUND
"When he putted out, I grabbed the ball, and I had the Sharpie in my back pocket. Then while he had the Sharpie, I said, 'Sign the glove, too.' We didn't take his shoes." Lee Trevino who played with Palmer during his final round.

The above quote was taken from Golf World, October 27. Credit should go to their staff.

MICHIGAN GOLF & SKI DESTINATION BRINGS $4 MILLION
By Thad Gutowski
For almost 70 years the Otsego Club near Gaylord has been one of Michiganıs premier vacation destinations. With two highly-regarded championship golf courses, seven comfortable Alpine style lodges, 27 ski slopes, five chairlifts, and outstanding dining, the Otsego Club is a very special year-round resort.

The original Classic golf course designed by William Diddle is as the name implies a no-nonsense but enjoyable golf experience. Regrettably, the contemporary golf market looks for more than this, and in 2002 the Tribute was introduced to satisfy the demand for a tougher test. Mission accomplished! Spread out over 700 wooded acres with incredible elevation changes, and heart-thumping greens, the Tribute designed by Rick Robbins and former PGA tour player and noted television golf analyst Gary Koch, was named by Sports Illustrated as one of the ³top ten new golf courses in the world!² Equally impressive is dining at Otsego, especially in the highly acclaimed Pontresina Restorante.

When the auctioneerıs gavel dropped on October 25th owner Keith Gornick exited this exceptional property after 50 years to spend quality time with his family, here and abroad. Truly a class act, the Michigan golf and skiing industries will miss Keith and his elegant and enviable style.

PAUL AZINGER TAKES ON RYDER CUP CAPTAINCY
Paul Azinger, who is back on the golf course after his ABC gig terminated, has been awarded the 2008 Ryder Cup captaincy. Here are his thoughts on whether the selection process has to be tweaked again, after a major overhaul in 2004:

"The bottom line is the players have to perform, And you have to have players that are playing well enough to get it done. If you have a team that's running cold against a team that's running blazing hot, then you have to look at the system to determine how you can change the system to get the best players - the hottest players - on your team at that event."

5.2 MILLION CONSUMERS PARTICIPATE IN PLAY GOLF AMERICA 2006

Play Golf America has shattered its 2005 total numbers and has outdriven the course it set for 2006. PGA Professionals, golf facilities and, most importantly, consumers have participated in Play Golf America programs at record levels during 2006.

With a record number of 6,725 facilities serving as host sites for Play Golf America programs, preliminary numbers indicate there were a record 935,281 participants in group lessons at these facilities, and a record 5.2 million total participants in organized play related to Play Golf America, announced Roger Warren, president of The PGA of America. In 2005, there were 6,018 facilities serving as host sites for Play Golf America programs with more than 556,000 participants in group lessons and 4.9 million total participants.

BOOK REVIEW:
"GOLF HEAVEN: INSIDERS REMEMBER THEIR FIRST TRIP TO AUGUSTA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB"
Edited by John Andrisanti
"GolfHeaven", a Thunder's Mouth Press book, will be published after the first of the year. John Andrisant, editor, has brought together a cadre of great story tellers that discuss their first visit to the course. The stories by the contributing authors, Nathanial Crosby and Brian McCallen among them, are a fast and satisfying read. I started to leaf through the book, but got caught up in the great writing and could not put it down.

To be sure, Augusta is a tough ticket, one of the hardest in sports to obtain, and once you step you visit, you will not soon forget the experience. My visit, was courtesy of Terry Moore, who rewarded me with a visit on my 50th birthday. It was one of the best birthday presents ever. Thanks again, for thinking of me, Terry.
