Hartland-Birdie Drop
It was different. The Majestic once again offered its annual "Turkey
Day" event on November 20, 2005. On this day they partnered with
Livingson County Gleaners Food Bank to collect turkeys for those who would
otherwise be unable to have a turkey with their Thanksgiving dinner.
They also dropped a couple thousand golf balls on a practice green for
five lucky winners.
Everything went off without a hitch and their were happy golfers, happy
prize winners and no doubt some happy Thanksgiving tables ladened with
complimentary turkeys.
There have been other notable Turkey themed drops from a helicopter,
the most notable "Turkey Drop" promotion from WKRP in Cincinnati.
"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!!!"
-- Arthur Carlson, WKRP in Cincinnati
To recapture one of televisions greatest moments check out this sound
bite from newscaster Les Nessman.

Coyote Golf Course, located in the South Lyons area, is on the block
for real estate development. If the current deal is approved for
residential use, the course will join the move to driveways instead of
fairways like Rochester Golf Course, El Dorado Golf and Country Club, Links of Novi, Partridge Creek and Bogie Country Club.

LES CHENEAUX GOLF CLUB OR WAWASHKOMO
Art: There's an interesting mini-fued between Wawashkomo on Mackinac
Island and Les Cheneaux Golf Club, both 9-holers, over which course is
the oldest, continuous club in the state. If you're trekking around
100-year old courses, take in these two and get the story. Hope all is well.
Craig Brass of "How to Quit Golf"
Craig I can see the problem. Here are some excerpts from their
websites.
"Les Cheneaux Golf Club - The True "Natural"
A traditional links in its essential features, the Les Cheneaux Golf
Club was laid out and chartered by the early members of the Les Cheneaux
Club. It was ready for play in May of 1898, and is, thus, the oldest
still-playable links in Michigan."
http://www.lescheneaux.org
"Built in 1898, the name Wawashkamo comes from a Chippewa phrase
meaning "walk a crooked trail" and was given by a local chief after observing a group of golfers on the links. Wawashkamo could claim the distinction of being one of very few American courses laid out in a links style that remains substantially unaltered. Named one of America's Historic Golf Landmarks by Golf Digest in 1996, Wawashkamo is the only nine-hole
course among the dozen in the United States to have been so designated. The
development of Wawashkamo Golf Club and the survival of its unique
brand of traditional golf parallels the uncommon history of Mackinac
Island, a place where much of the flavor of the nineteenth century survives, insulated from the modern world by the blue moat of Lake Huron, a ban on motorized vehicles and public ownership of eighty percent of the
land.
