BART LOWER BACK ON BIG BREAK
Kip Henley III won Big Break II, but the other winner turned out to be
the very popular Bart Lower. The "twist" as they called it, entitled
Bart Lower to return as a contestant on Big Break IV. Lower, got the
honor due to online fan support. Big Break IV will be taped this summer
for showing in Fall '05. Big Break III, for Women Only, will premier
this February.
Bart Lower was a hit this fall, as he returned to Eastern Michigan
University to not only chat about his experience in the show, but to also
chat about being in the business world. Lower was on the EMU golf team
as he completed his business degree. He will be leaving Michigan to
take a position with Pulte Homes at their Naples, Florida location.
For those that can not get enough of Bart Lower, check out the show he
did with us on the Michigan Television Show. In the show, he talks
about golf architect, Tom Bendelow, with grandson Stuart Bendelow.

Treasures Tour earlier this year. Our show, shows off the elk and also the

LPGA TIP OF THE WEEK
This week¹s tip courtesy of Deb Vangellow, Sweetwater Country
Club,Sugar Land TX
A healthier body for better golf
Getting into better physical condition tends to be a popular plan for
many of us these days, but turning that plan into action can be the
challenge. Perhaps if we realized that a commitment to fitness could help
our golf games, we might find more motivation. It¹s true! Physical
conditioning can improve your game in many ways‹you can gain the ability
to hit the golf ball farther with more control, you can outlast heat
and humidity in the summer and you can reduce the risk of golf-related
injuries. The following tips on flexibility training, resistance
training and nutrition/fluid replacement can all improve your health and, in
turn, improve your golf game!
FLEXIBILILTY TRAINING
1. Warm up before stretching.
2. Try to stretch in conjunction with each muscle¹s natural line
of pull and postural alignment.
3. Breathe rhythmically. Do not hold your breath.
4. Never bounce or exceed your pain threshold when stretching.
5. Stretch after exercise to elongate the muscles and connective
tissues.
RESISTANCE TRAINING
1. First, gain muscular endurance by working with low weights and
high repetitions. After you have established a good endurance base,
move to muscular strength training with more weight and lower
repetitions.
2. Warm up and stretch before performing resistance-training
exercises.
3. Breathe while lifting.
4. Do not sacrifice technique to lift heavier weights.
5. Work large muscle groups first, progressing to smaller groups.
NUTRITION AND FLUID REPLACEMENT
1. Eat a variety of foods everyday.
2. Match your energy intake to your energy output.
3. Eat less sugar.
4. Eat less processed foods and more natural, unrefined foods.
5. Drink at least eight glasses of water daily.
Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.
Working on this important area is the foundation of better golf. Be
well and golf well!

NGF REPORT ON GOLF COURSE DEVELOPMENT
As of November 2, there were 260 courses (in 18-hole equivalents) in
pre-planning; 398.5 in the more serious planning stage; and 322 under
construction and expected to open over the next few years.
One hundred thirty-nine courses have opened to date, including 97
public and 42 private. Most of these were new facilities (113.5) and 25.5
were additions to existing facilities. Florida leads the way in openings
with 10, followed by California and Texas with nine, New York with 7.5
and Pennsylvania with seven. Real estate-related openings accounted for
69 courses (50 percent) a substantially high percentage, given that
only 19 percent of existing courses are connected to housing.
Edited from a NGF release.

TOP TEN STORY OF THE YEAR
Here is another submittal to the Top Ten Michigan Golf Stories of the
Year from Dave Ziolkowski. Last week Dave submitted the suggestion on
"Overbuilding and Under Utilization of Michigan Golf Courses." This
week, he wants us to consider, "Golf Club Theft."
Of the eight guys I play with three of us have had our clubs stolen
this year. One in Northville, accross the street from Northville Hill GC,
and two of us in Brighton. All in very nice neighborhoods, all out of
the garage in broad daylight (I was home with 3 cars in the garage when
mine were swipped). As I have shared my story with others I have been
made aware of this issue as being a growing concern in Metro Detroit. Not the most positive story but it may increase awareness and save some frustrations for others. The $3000+ it took me to replace my set took unplanned time and dollars
from my busy schedule.
Thanks and two Tips of the Tam to Dave Ziolkowski for his
contributions.

19TH HOLE: FIRE FIGHTER
A fire fighter is working on the engine outside the station when
he notices a little girl next door in a little red wagon with little
ladders hung off the sides and a garden hose tightly coiled in the
middle.
The girl is wearing a fire fighter's helmet, and the wagon is being
pulled by her dog and her cat. The fire fighter walked over to take a
closer look. "That sure is a nice fire truck," the fire fighter
says with admiration.
"Thanks" the girl says. The firefighter looks a little closer
and notices the girl has tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to
the cat's testicles!
"Little Partner", the fire fighter says, "I don't want to tell you how
to run your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's
collar too, I think you could go faster."
The little girl replies thoughtfully, "You're probably right, but
then I wouldn't have a siren."
Thanks and a Tip of the Tam to Dr. Jack Minzey for this holiday treat.

TIGER TALK
Golf Press Association-December 9, 2004 € Volume 6, No. 238
TIGER WOODS: Yeah, I'm really excited about 2005 just because of all
the work I've done this year. I've put a lot of work in and changed my
game, and I started seeing signs of it in the last three, four months,
but it was kind of spot at this. You see one great round here and then
all of a you'd I'd lose it and then get it back. The TOUR Championship
was a positive success, even though I had those two bookend 72s. Middle
part was very encouraging, then I just tried to do the same thing in
Japan, and I played four solid rounds there. I'm very excited about it,
and I've worked really hard this year. I'm trying to change a few things.
It's finally nice to see some positive results.
Q.: You're not hitting the fairways as often as you did. Is that one
reason you changed your swing?
TIGER WOODS: Well, it's just coming together. It starts with the sand
wedge, and then you've got to work it all the way up to the driver, and
the driver is the last thing to come around.
In Japan I hit almost 80 percent of the fairways that week, which for
me is unheard of. Going back to 2000, I never hit that many, or any day
I never hit that many. I always seemed to hit nine fairways a day,
maybe ten on a good day. There were times I hit 12 or 13 fairways, so
that's very exciting, and that's how I won.
I'm excited about next year, Kapalua, you've got to throw that one out,
but I'm excited about Buick and the rest of the tournaments where the
fairways aren't landing strips out there.
Q.: As your swing has changed, has your physical workout changed?
TIGER WOODS: You don't change anything. All you do is just try and win
tournaments. Back when I first came on Tour, trying to become No. 1 in
the world, how do you do that? You win golf tournaments. When Duval was
No. 1 in the world, how did he get to that point? Well, he won golf
tournaments. That is the only way you can do that. I mean, you can't
become No. 1 in the world by not winning golf tournaments. That's how I got
there. I got there a few times, and hopefully I can do that again.
Q.: Do you ever feel like it'll never get better?
TIGER WOODS: You always know it's not going to be like this forever.
That's just -- it's part of playing sports. You're always going to have
down cycles. Unfortunately we go through those times. You don't ever
want to go through them, trust me, it doesn't feel good, but it's just
part of playing sport, and especially in our sport, longevity is just huge
here. You've got a career that could literally span -- for me, 30 years
on the regular Tour.
There's no other profession really like that, that you can play at a
high level for that long. No, you're going to have periods like that. You
can't win every tournament.
